Live Audio Engineering, Having A Good Ear, And Knowing What You Hear!

Audio engineering is about what you hear and what another person hears. Most people know what they want something to sound like. It is my job to bring their vision of sound into reality! It requires a good ear (so to speak)to be successful. I have done live audio engineering for years. I can hear when someone or something sound is off. Fixing things on the fly in live performances is exciting and stressful. Knowing what I hear and understanding the issue is essential! Can I hear all of the instruments? Is the singer in the right note or key? Wow! that is a lot of feedback! What happened there? I see all kinds of audio issues! I have to know the solution! Everything is done "on the fly" in live events after it starts. This is where having a "good ear" comes in! It is about training the ears to recognize different issues. It would be amazing if every event or session went perfectly. I would love that. However, that is not the case most of the time. It can turn hectic and stressful to find the solution now to the audio issue!
