Why Can't This Audio Error Be Fixed? I Have Tried Everything!
One of the things I had to learn early on is that quality recording is crucial because you cannot fix everything. Noise in the background, the microphone is moving all-around, or interference from other devices. The environment is noisy. These are just some of the issues someone may encounter when editing an audio file. One of the most important things to remember is, you cannot fix everything. There are going to be issues that are not fixable. They can pop up for many reasons. Sometimes the only way to get rid of the problem is to re-record. Other times a plug-in will help to reduce or fix the problem. Then there are times when there is no solution. For example, an actor might say, “I finally got the perfect version of this one scene after the 35th time! It took us all day!” That means it took them 35 takes to get a version they could use. Some of that may be that the actor forgot their lines, but sometimes it can be that something happened that ruined that version of the recording. There are times some of the issues are not fixable. What can the audio engineer do in this case? They deliver the best product they can and note what is not correctable. The point is that one issue that you may be working on for hours and still can’t resolve may not be one that you can fix. It may have nothing to do with the skill set of the engineer. This article does not apply to every situation. Audio engineers make mistakes. In that case, then it is up to them how they choose to remedy that situation.
